Looks like Valkyrie Scout is the winner. I like it. It provides a lot of early offensive power that Life was missing. It is a little funny that the scout will be carrying the team in damage for a while but it works. You can get one of the best heals in the game once you get to realm 7.

I think Narklin Orphan would be a good partner for Emlai. Through his trait, all creatures in the Team gets the ability to cast Major Healing for 0 mana and thus benefit from the Perks of the Life Mage.

By the way ... I think the true power of Life Mage is that its creatures become stronger without buffs. This will work around some limitations of Sigils and Nether Creatures. In essence, that's exactly what you expect from a Life Mage - His creatures become more "living" and have more power without being enchanted.
Agree. I was going to suggest Narklin Ophan as well.
Healing for 0 mana isn't strong in and of itself, but when you combine with some of the Life Perks, it gains some traction.

It also prevents the "I don't have a heal" situation for early game Life Mages. In this fashion, you ALWAYS have a heal.
Chaos/Nature/Death - ALWAYS has access to an attacker
Sorcery - ALWAYS has a damage spell of some type (via Perks, if necessary)

Life is about the only one where you can go without a healing spell for a good portion of the normal game. I don't think I got a heal until realm level 18.

Narklin Ophan is better for Life Mage and Valkyrie Shieldmaiden is better for Emlai.

How about the other Godspawns and the first partners? Do the other "second starters" go with Godspawn or Mage?

Oh, Valkyrie Shieldmaiden seems like an excellent second creature:
-- Really clear how to use the creature effectively, even for new players
-- "Feels" very in line with what people expect from a Life creature
-- Good Synergy with the Life Perks
-- Makes the Emlai hard to kill ... the Emlai wants to take hits due to its passive, this ensures the Emlai can stay alive early game

I think that Narklin Ophan would also be fine (it has a lot of the same advantages as the Shieldmaiden), but for some reason Shieldmaiden + Emlai feels like a better fit.

Narklin Ophan would be fine. He still wouldn't really synergize with Emlai's trait directly... It would be more synergizing with Censure while Emlai just happens to benefit. I still think a Valkyrie is the best bet. Though if we're concerned about healing then a Valkyrie Shieldmaiden might be the right partner. Emlai could still provoke and gain buffs for getting hit and get healed from the shieldmaiden while he's getting hit. The healing would also trigger Censure.

I agree with the buffs thing not really fitting either. While I was looking through the creatures I noticed that the truly "perfect" partners are all nature type creatures. Particularly the Dryads. I wonder how Life Mage early game is when you can finally buy a Dryad Proliferator.

I wouldn't worry about Emlai facing Sigils or Nemesis creatures. Even with his reworked trait, any good team will see him join the Stables well before the story ends.

I just ran through the very early game with a new Life Mage and I agree with Gringar that the starting duo doesn't make a lot of sense.

In particular, it can be quite a while until you get access to Healing. (None of the gauranteed early game creatures provide Healing ... You might get lucky with a Healing Spell Gem in Zonte's Realm, but you might not). Therefore, for all the early game, it feels like the Spirit has no Trait at all.

I don't know if Valkyrie Queen is the right answer, but I think something other than Spirit would be helpful. (Either that or find a way to gaurantee that a player will have access to Healing effects early on the game through one of the early eztractable creatures.)

Side Note: The bards are really scary early game because they themselves hit hard and they make a bunch of other early game creatures hit harder. You should consider moving the Bards back a few Realms so that they don't unlock at Realm 1. (Perhaps put them in the Medows of the Wind God and move something that forward to replace them?)

It's been mentioned in the Discord chat by another player that the Frozen Spirit you get during the tutorial no longer has any synergy with Emlai. Emlai no longer heals himself on attack or spell cast so he can't immediately benefit from Dreams of Ice to get more defense.

I've been looking through the creature list and I think a great choice would be to give a Valkyrie Queen instead. Emlai would get Taunt for perfect provoke and a 25% damage reduction turning him into a great early game tank. Emlai could provoke, take a bunch of hits for the team, and gain a bunch of buffs. The buffs should help him on the offense for round two so Life Mages right in realm 1 would see that Life Mages are built on a solid defense that leads into increased offense.

Plus, as a bonus it fits perfectly with his lore of having been a defender for royal individuals  ;D
