Ever wanted to learn how to read Japanese? The first step is to learn "Hiragana" and "Katakana", otherwise known collectively as "Kana"! "Kana" refers to the Japanese alphabet - a collection of symbols that each make a distinct sound. By stringing multiple Kana together, you can form whole words or even entire sentences! • Test your Kana knowledge in either Play Mode or Free Training mode
  • High score table allows you to track your progress and watch yourself improve over time

FAQ

Q. So... how does this game work, exactly?
A. The gameplay works a bit like Tetris, or more specifically, Puyo-Puyo. Blocks fall from the sky, and it's your job to match them with the correct blocks. Matching blocks explode and give you points. You can only match identical blocks or matching Kana-Romaji pairs. In "Campaign Mode", we'll slowly introduce new Kana to you over time so that it's not too overwhelming. You'll learn Kana without even realizing you're doing it! Gone are the days of boring and tedious flashcard studies, and frustrating nights of textbook memorization. It's time to Learn Kana The Fun Way!

Q. How much does it cost?
A. $1.99 USD on mobile platforms, and $4.99 USD everywhere else.

Q. What WON'T the game teach me?
A. It won't teach you vocabulary or grammar, both of which are important for any sort of comprehension of the language. It also won't teach you stroke order, which is necessary for clear and concise writing. Lastly, it won't teach you Kanji, which is a third and much more elaborate alphabet borrowed from the Chinese language. However, learning Hiragana and Katakana should be your first step before you learn any of these things, so just focus on that for now!

Q. I beat the campaign! Now what?
A. Review your Kana daily by playing the game's "Play Mode" or, if you're looking for a more relaxed experience, try "Free Training Mode". Aside from that, if you want to continue learning Japanese, your next step should be to learn Japanese grammar, along with a third alphabet called Kanji. For grammar, we recommend the book "A Guide to Japanese Grammar" by Tae Kim (free on the author's website, or buy a hard copy from Amazon). For Kanji, we recommend the WaniKani app (costs money, but it's completely worth it!).
